The world of custom and handmade products has become more and more popular. We recently wrote about Etsy and their market for bringing new handmade and vintage products right to your fingertips. However, these sellers tend to be small shop or single person stores that either make their products as a hobby or simply don’t have the resources to do something more mainstream. I’m all for supporting entrepreneurs and the projects, but it’s interesting to see how large retailers react to these trends. Case and point is New Balance, my current favorite running shoe company, who has taken the leap into the custom shoe industry.
New Balance Now Offers Custom Shoes
With over a billion different combinations available, New Balance now offers custom shoe creation and puts you in the driver seat for how you want your shoes to look and feel. They offer three different base models in the 574, 993 and 990V1. Aside from size and width, there’s 15 other parts of the shoe that you may customize it’s color and add personalization to both the left and right of the shoe with up to eight letters, number or special characters per shoe.
If you order your custom shoes by 4 pm ET and use UPS Express shipping you can get your shoe completed and on your feet in as little as 2 business days! For those looking for the ultimate coordination of your outfits New Balance may be just the solution you’re looking for. I fully expect this trend to continue putting the control in the customers hand for limitless product creations and combinations. The question is, does the increased price tag of a custom created shoe scare you off from trying this new feature or do you see it as an added value to your shopping experience?
